Maruko is my sweet rescue from La Paz, Mexico. He and his littermates were dumped outside a shelter and found by workers the next morning. He and his sister were very ill with the tick-borne illness, Erhlichia. Unfortunately, his sibling died, but Maruko was given the opportunity to live thanks to the loving support of Ceci, Michael, and the generous donors to Helping Paws and Claws. Maruko is 4 years old now and living a happy, healthy life in the U.S. thanks to the support and generosity of others.
In the past 30 years,we have adopted eight dogs. Malu came to us through Ceci Barraza’s independent dog rescue, and I highly recommend her. Ceci works with Helping Paws and Claws in Washington and Oregon Dog Rescue.
What do I love about Ceci’s dog rescue? Ceci takes the time to really get to know each dog and is honest with feedback, allowing potential adopters to really understand the dog they are adopting. Malu was a two-year-old mixed breed who had been physically abused. Before we met her, we knew that Malu was cautious with strangers but good with other dogs, highly food motivated, and the mighty destroyer of stuffed toys! All of that turned out to be true! We were sent videos of Malu’s interactions with other dogs and lots of pictures. Ceci also makes sure animals up for adoption are vaccinated and receive excellent vet care. Malu even had dental cleaning before flying to Washington State.
With every adoption, there is an adjustment period. We immersed Malu in our daily lives, and she has become a member of the family. We take her on walks 3-4 miles each day, hikes, beach trips, and out on our boat. Thank you, Ceci, for rescuing Malu and giving her a chance to have a great life!
I adopted Dexter from the Los Cabos Humane Society, and during a later trip to Baja I had a medical emergency and had to quickly fly myself and him back to the U.S. Michael, Ceci, and her husband Eduardo helped us with last-minute arrangements to get back home for treatment, and we would have been lost without your generosity and their help!
